About Tapepeel

TapePeel is a department of the  Shoemachinery GmbH Bayreuth - Germany.

The mechanical industry of the shoemachinery sector has been committed for years to finding an alternative to tacks or nails traditionally used to attach the insole to the last before mounting to the upper. The results have never been very satisfactory, until the system “TapePeel” was introduced to the market.

Special designed and manufactured by a special constructed  production line, “TapePeel” has undergone a Major evolution in just a few years; an evolution that made it suitable to be adopted by the most renowned companies in Spain, Italy, England, Hungary, Germany, North America, South America and other countries.

Availability

“Tape Peel” is available in two versions that differ in the strength of the gluing element:
“Strong” and “Very strong”.

The “Strong” version holds the insole with an adhesive strength of about 1.5 Kg, in the delasting process it don t hurts the insole surface.

The “Very strong” version has an adhesive strength of about 2.5 Kg (with another type of adhesive) suitable for both “Ago” and “Goodyear” processing.

The “Tape Peel” gluing element has a particular structure - the gluing surface sticking to the insole is reduced to two Points. This allows preserving the surface of the insole, regardless the material it is made of.

Furthermore, special foam increases the thickness of the glued element, enabling to combine insole and outsole in a perfect way, also when the surface is not even. The structure of each element is realised so as to prevent any forward or backward displacement during the assembly process.

And last but not least all basis materials like the glue, backing materials and liners are special developed for TapePeel - it is absolute unique and inimitable in the World.

Moreover the unit for the automatic application TP BH 1 of 'TapePeel' has been developed in the years to guarantee a perfect application for each single gluing element.

clever idea!

The system seams a double-sided tape but in fact has adhesive on one side only
and because it is a folded tape it sticks only on the outer surface.
The tape remains also folded and flat on the lasts after application
and thus the insole can be positioned and fixed on the lasts without any problem.

To ensure a perfect result one has to use two ore more gluing elements for each last.
It don t has to be applied in an exact or  straight orientation, this allows a fast application also from unskilled workers.

While delasting the adhesive remains always onto the last
- this is not caused because of different glueing force -
it is caused because of the physical effect of the folded adhesive
when it gets into movement while the delasting process.

Using TapePeel encreases the quantity of shoes produced because it speeds the
lasting process, nobody has to take care about nails or staples,
because removing the adhesive will be made after delasting the shoe.
Removing the adhesive from the last is easy and very fast.

Less damage!

It also results in much less damage to the surface of the insole than is the case with hotmelt or conventional double-sided products.

Tests have shown that the adhesive tape can be peeled off from certain kinds of leather completely residue-free and without any other traces remaining. This allows the insole to be coated with the sock prior to being tacked. As a result, the ensuing complicated inclusion of the final sock sole does not occur. As mentioned, the tape always remains on the last and can be easily and quickly peeled off after the delasting process.

Easy Placement!

The application machine is controlled by an electronic eye which ensures that the tape applied in the right place and that the fold faces the toe of the last. It then remains folded and flat on the last bottom while the insole is correctly positioned after which it will be held flat to the last bottom.

In the course of production the placing of the elements does not have to be to the nearest millimeter or exactly square, so that this process step can, without any problems being incurred, be done by unskilled workers. The time needed for this process is the same as when using nails and clips but the handling of the last and insole is much more convinient.

When using metal bottom lasts one does not have to observe the cut-outs in the metal as would be the case when using staples and nails, but can simply glue the insoles.

Best results!

For the best results, two or more pieces of tape should be used as this will hold the insole straight on the last. The adhesive system used is compatible with all types of lasts both with and without metal bottom plates. Each roll of tape contains 2,000 pieces.

This is a well thought out solution to an old problem. The key part is:
when the tape is not in movement it results as a double adhesive on the last surface and insole surface - when the last gets in movement the part on the insole changes from a surface contact to an only line contact with less resistence as the remaining surface contact on the last.

It will mean that there is one more problem shoe manufacturers will not have to worry about.

Conclusion

From the earliest days of shoemaking, insoles have been attached to the last bottom prior to lasting with tacks or nails. It was fast, cheap and convenient; it also had downsides, as they had to be removed before the sole was attached and sometime a worker forget to pull out  - therefore remains always a doubt in the shoe production.  In addition nails left small holes in the insole that were visible inside the shoe and damaged last bottoms. The disadvantages that exist when using staples and nails in shoes production are well known. The nails and staples tend to destroy the lasts when being pulled out after tacking, and the staples and nails are sometimes also found in the machines and can result in the machines breaking down completely.
